You would think that after so many years of working together we would have evolved. Evolved to a level to be more patient. Evolved to be more fair. Evolved to be more understanding.

But often times that's not the case.

You see, many critical decisions in business are made on impulse. And impulsive thought is not careful thought. It's not balanced. Or fair. It's snap judgement made in an instant. Forever living on, no matter the consequence.

There have been plenty of times in my career that I have made decisions on impulse. Far too many. Embarrassing really. And the consequences have been dire.

But what I learned from all these impulsive actions is that you can't measure success by a snapshot in time.

That would be like picking a stock based on it's performance that day. You might think -- oh look -- this stock went up today so it must be a winner!

But we all know that nothing can be further from the truth.

The anedote to implue is time. It seems simple really but it's actually very, very hard to execute day in and day out.

Making effort to investigate, to discover, to uncover and to ask questions is not easy work. It takes time.

But it will help you avoid the dreaded impulsive decision. Which when bad enough, just might haunt you for the rest of your career.
