Getting Better at Your Job by Not Doing Your Job

Having been in creative my whole life, I have seen a certain phenomenon occur time and time again. No matter what. Over and over. And in reality, I’m sure it has nothing to do with the creative field at all.

I’m sure this happens in your industry as well.

What happens is that folks end up putting all their eggs in one basket. They put all their eggs into using their job as the one outlet for everything. Even defining who they are.

The truth is that work is just one part of the human experience.

Having a life outside of your work makes you better at work. It gives you perspective. It gives you diversity. And perhaps most importantly, it gives you experience.

It is the path to fulfillment.

Don’t wait to be on the clock to unlock your full potential. Go out and do it. You will see that by not doing your job you just might get better at it.
